Grand County Historical Association was founded in 1974

as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization to bring together people interested in history and to preserve the history, historical artifacts, and historical buildings in Grand County, Colorado.

Grand County Historical Association operates three historical museums:

Pioneer Village Museum Complex

Pioneer Village Museum

The Pioneer Village Museum was established in 1974 and the building itself was the original Hot Sulphur Schoolhouse, built in 1924. In addition to the schoolhouse, Pioneer Village is home to the original Hot Sulphur courthouse (1891-1902) and county jail (1897-1937), a blacksmith shop, the “Horseshoe Ranger Station,” which has been converted to a typical early 1900’s ranch house, and the 8 Mile School (1920 – 1942). Besides the buildings, the largest artifacts at Pioneer Village are the Spreader, an early railroad snowplow, and the Winter Park Ski Train caboose, which was once a visitor information center at the ski area.

Cozens Ranch Museum

Cozens Ranch is the earliest homestead in the Fraser Valley and at its peak covered roughly 700 acres. From 1876 to 1904, the ranch served as the first stage stop after crossing Berthoud Pass and the first US post office in the area. Of the many ranch buildings, only the Cozens Ranch Museum building remains, restored to the times when it was a stagecoach stop for travelers, a post office, and home to the William Z. Cozens family.

Heritage Park Museum

Heritage Park Museum boasts six historic buildings: the MacElroy Livery barn, the Hermitage ranch house, a 1915 Forest Service Ranger Station, the Ritschard family fishing cabin, plus the original Kremmling town jail and old railroad depot. At this time, the railroad depot is under construction and will not be open to the public. This historic museum near the banks of the Colorado River provides a window into the past life of early Grand County ranchers.
